Antarctica, Chile & Argentina

In 2020, we visited Chile and Argentina to do cruises to Antarctica (and coastal Chile for Rosemary) and for John to walk the Torres del Pines “O” Route. We sailed to Antarctica from Ushuaia on the third voyage of the “Greg Mortimer” and flew back from King George Island to Punta Arenas. Over 12 days, we travelled down the Antarctic Peninsula, down the Lemaire Channel to a British Base abandoned in the 1950s but with all the equipment intact including food and coal.

We returned via Port Lockroy to King George island and then flew from there to Punta Arenas in Argentina. We arrived back in Australia just as COVID was breaking out around the world. We voluntarily self-isolated as there had been cases in Chile and the Australian Government introduced restrictions only a few days later.
